How can you put together a good resume if you have no work experience?
This is a great question that gets asked by everyone from the fresh seminary grad to the Kollel guy whose Rav told him it’s time to join the workforce.
When you’re fresh out of seminary or college, the answer is to get an internship, take an entry-level job, or do whatever you can to rack up experience.
But if you’re 25-30, that’s not an option. You need a good resume now, because you already have a family relying on your income.
So first, go back in time and comb through everything you’ve done.
Were you in charge of your kollel’s annual dinner? Did you run a weekly program for kids? Were you a counselor or lifeguard in a camp? Did you volunteer at a community organization?
These experiences require skills: organization, time management, team management, the ability to work under pressure and think on your feet. Detail them and pump them up on your resume.
The next thing you can do is register for online courses that are relevant to the job you want to land. Not sure which course is right for you? Then it’s time to schedule your free Career Discovery Call!
Once you’ve registered, put the course details at the top of your resume. That shows potential employers that you’re motivated and willing to put in the work to succeed.
And no matter where you are in your job search journey, remember: Everyone was a first-timer at some point in their professional life!
