Whether your employer has “decided to make a change” or is “restructuring the workforce” or “feels you’d be a better fit at a different company” being out of a job is a very tough place to be.
It’s okay to feel down, be disappointed, or have the blues.
But not too long. Because you’ve got a job to find. And the best way to find one — whether it’s your first job or your tenth — is by networking.
Rolling your eyes? Think about this first:
=> According to HubSpot, 85% of jobs are filled through networking.
=> According to CNBC, at least 70% of jobs are never published publicly.
Now that your eyes are back in their sockets, we can get down to the business of networking.
There is one key to networking well:
Push yourself beyond your comfort zone.
That means calling people you never thought you’d call. Reaching out to recruiters. Reaching out to people in the industry and asking them if they know anyone hiring. Calling job placement agencies. Going to networking events. And actually going up to people and starting conversations with them. Let them know you’re in transition.
Talk to as many people as you know and then some. You never know who someone knows.
